Integrative Nutrition/Medicine

Integrative Medicine is defined by the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine (CAHCIM) as the practice of medicine that reaffirms the importance of the relationship between practitioner and patient, focuses on the whole person, is informed by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches, healthcare professionals and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing.

Integrative nutrition is the approach to diet and nutritional supplementation that is recommended in an integrative or complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) center.

Another way to define it is to consider dietary and nutritional supplementation in the context of an integrative medicine care model in which the foundation approaches would include diet, supplements, exercise / physical fitness, relaxation or stress management techniques and a range of other possible natural approaches from massage to acupuncture and homeopathy, as well as other modalities.

One of the most important aspects of integrative nutrition and medicine is that the practitioner and client need to work together to design a unique body, mind and spirit approach that can achieve the desired goals.
